What's Happening

Ring In the New Year with Our Top Albums

In honor of all of the fabulous music that has graced the airwaves in 2008, Jessi and Katherine from the Local Shakedown will be counting down the top 100 albums of the year. Tune in on January 2nd starting at 7 a.m. for the best that the year can offer.

Premiums Hit the Mail

The perfect storm of pledge drive premiums for our beloved watt owners have arrived and will be shipped this week. Just in time for the holidays, if your pledge is paid in full, you'll be receiving your packages very soon! The t-shirts and hoodies are all printed, the "Ten Years in the Ground" commemorative CD is pressed and sound great, the Rocket Cards have landed! Despite finals and holidays, Radio 1190 volunteers will be working tirelessly this week to make sure you get your packages. We have lots of envelopes and some great tunes to listen to, so it should be wild.

Unlike corporate radio stations who can afford to print warehouses full of logo swag at a time, Radio 1190 has everything specially made to order for each watt owner. Thanks so much for your patience!

10th Anniversary Browsing

Celebrate Radio 1190's 10th Anniversary with a click down memory lane. Google is also celebrating an anniversary, and to do that they have put up a lot of pages from their archive to show how things where back in 2001. Take a look at Radio 1190's wayback page here.

CD of the Month

Radio 1190’s CD of the Month for January is the debut full-length album from Fire on Fire, entitled The Orchard. Some members of Fire on Fire came from Cereberus Shoal, an art-punk-prog collective, who joined two others to form a quintet. They play banjo, accordion, guitar and bass as well as oud, nay and doumbek. This album was released on Young God Records, a label started by Michael Gira in 1990 originally intended to release SWANS music. The Orchard follows a limited edition, handmade EP released in 2007 that was enthusiastically received. Radio 1190 would like to thank Twist and Shout in Denver for their continued support of the CD of the month club.

Westword honors Radio 1190

"Back in 1998, before it was subsumed by Clear Channel, Jacor wound up with one more station than it could keep under FCC rules. Instead of holding a fire sale, execs donated it to the University of Colorado at Boulder, which up until then had made do with a school radio station that broadcast to the dorms using carrier current. A decade later, Radio 1190 is a station worthy of celebrating, with a reach that goes far outside of CU and even Boulder.
